Bienvenidos a "CINEMA QUEER: Arte Inspirado en Películas y Series LGBTIQ+", una exposición que destaca el talento de diez artistas ilustradores de Guatemala. En esta muestra, exploramos escenas de películas y series donde el tema LGBTIQ+ en la cultura alternativa y pop ha dejado una marca significativa en nuestras vidas.
Cada artista ha seleccionado una escena de una película, personaje o serie con temática LGBTIQ+ que les ha inspirado profundamente. A partir de esta inspiración, han creado ilustraciones que capturan la esencia y el mensaje de esas escenas para presentarlas en nuestra exposición.
El cine y la televisión siempre han sido fuentes de escape e inspiración, ofreciéndonos nuevos mundos y personajes con los que podemos identificarnos y sentir empatía. Sin embargo, durante mucho tiempo, los personajes LGBTIQ+ eran escasos en la pantalla o estaban estereotipados, lo que dejaba a muchas personas sin referentes con los que identificarse, y es que lo que no se ve, no existe, y por mucho tiempo no tuvimos personajes que nos inspiraran de una forma más cercana visibilizando orientaciones distintas a la heterosexual.
En los últimos años, hemos presenciado un cambio significativo, con personajes LGBTIQ+ que pasan de roles secundarios a protagonistas de historias complejas y realistas. Esta evolución nos ha inspirado y emocionado, demostrando que la representación importa y puede influir positivamente en nuestras vidas.
Lo que se ve, se visibiliza y se normaliza.
"CINEMA QUEER" es un homenaje a esta evolución, celebrando cómo el arte puede reflejar nuestras experiencias e inspirarnos a soñar con un mundo más inclusivo y diverso. Te invitamos a explorar estas ilustraciones y sumergirte en las emocionantes historias que tienen para contar.

CINEMA QUEER: Art Inspired by LGBTIQ+ Films and Series.
Event night: Saturday, May 4th, starting at 7 pm, at the new La Fanzine gallery on 9 calle 7-43, Zona 1 (across from the Gran Hotel).
We will have screenings of scenes from the films, music, iconic soundtracks and works by ten featured Guatemalan artists.

Cinema Queer is a timely exhibition highlighting the art of ten talented illustrators from Guatemala. In this showcase they explore scenes from films and series where LGBTIQ+ themes in alternative and pop culture have left a significant mark on our lives. Each artist has selected a scene, character, or series with LGBTIQ+ themes that has deeply inspired them. Drawing from this inspiration, they have created illustrations capturing the essence and message of these scenes for our exhibition.
Film and television have always been sources of escape and inspiration, offering us new worlds and characters with whom we can identify and empathize. However, for a long time, LGBTIQ+ characters were scarce on screen or stereotyped, leaving many people without relatable role models. What is not seen does not exist, and for a long time, we did not have characters that inspired us in a more relatable way, showcasing orientations other than heterosexual.
In recent years, we have witnessed a significant change, with LGBTIQ+ characters transitioning from supporting roles to protagonists of complex and realistic stories. This evolution has inspired and moved us, showing that representation matters and can positively influence our lives. What is seen becomes visible and normalized. "CINEMA QUEER" is a tribute to this evolution, celebrating how art can reflect our experiences and inspire us to dream of a more inclusive and diverse world. We invite you to explore these illustrations and immerse yourself in the exciting stories they have to tell.
